- Messy, tangled, strong webs close to the ground, in garage corners, under patio chairs, behind trash cans, in block wall holes or in the water meter and utility boxes. These are typical of widow spiders.

Spiders Commonly Found Around Oxnard Homes

- Brown widow. Tan to brown with an orange hourglass. Much more common in Southern California in recent decades. Likes outdoor furniture, play equipment, mailboxes and railings.

- Orb weavers. Large, circular webs in shrubs and between plants and eaves. Harmless, but some homeowners want them cleared from walkways.

- Web and egg sac removal. Webs and egg sacs are brushed and vacuumed away from eaves, windows, doors and outdoor structures. Removing egg sacs stops the next generation.
- Harborage treatment. A residual product is applied to cracks, gaps and the dark, protected places where spiders build webs: garage edges, block wall openings, under eaves and around doors and windows.
- Insect reduction. Spiders stay where food is. Treating the perimeter for ants and other crawling insects, and suggesting changes to lighting, cuts down what spiders eat.
- Prevention advice. We point out door sweeps, torn screens and clutter that give spiders protected spots.
What Affects the Cost of Spider Control
Spider control is priced mainly on the size of the property and how much of it has webs. A house with a small yard and a clean garage takes less time than a property with long block walls, a cluttered garage, a detached shed, a large patio and play equipment. Two-story eaves and high entryways that need a ladder or extension pole add time. Combining spider control with ant treatment or regular general pest service is usually more economical than calling separately.
